April 23rd, 2018 candidate Ryan Phillips was caught accepting “gifts” from the major oil company BP after they petitioned congress to allow them to drill in the U.S. wilderness, he states that BP sent him gifts after the petition didn’t pass in congress and they said it was to thank him for him trying to help them even though they lost the petition. BP stated that they didn’t mean for the gifts to look like bribery but they intended for the gifts to be a for charity of his choice. Ryan stated that he wasn’t gonna take the money anyway if it was bribery and he stated that if it was bribery that he was gonna refuse it. BP also stated that if the petition was to pass, they were going to try a new minimally intrusive type of drilling so the wildlife of that region wouldn’t be affected.
